When you’re looking for a retirement community, it’s important to find one that suits you now and in the future. The Cedars provides maintenance-free living to seniors of all ages, and we're equipped to provide the housing and healthcare services you may need as you age.

    Living Options

At The Cedars, independent living suits seniors who don’t require special care but want a maintenance-free lifestyle. Residents needing light assistance will find all the amenities of home, as well as a 24-hour nursing staff, at The Cedars Courts, our assisted living facility. Those who need continuing care will find it at our healthcare living group homes, which are equipped with nursing stations, kitchens, and common areas for residents. In addition, our memory care unit was designed with the safety of dementia patients in mind. All residents have access to our community amenities, including the Wellness Center, The Cedars Café, social activities and events, and more, on our beautiful campus with gorgeous lake views.

    Person-centered Care

We use the term “person-centered care” to describe our approach to senior care services. Our staff is trained to place emphasis not on assistance but on you and your preferences. When you move in, our medical staff will find out what your routine was like at home so that we can recreate it here. We want you to be able to live as independently as possible and empower you to make as many choices as you can when it comes to your daily activities. Patients unable to make their own decisions are always treated with compassion and dignity.

    Miriam Hoover

Having resided at The Cedars for 27 years, Miriam Hoover was born into the Church of the Brethren. Her father was a free minister and served a church near Cincinnati, Ohio, where Miriam met her lifetime soulmate, Wilbur Hoover, a pastor in the Church of the Brethren. Their first call together was to a church in southwest Nebraska. Miriam taught in a one-room school where she had 6 students. This began a lifelong career path – Wilbur serving the church and Miriam teaching students. Later Miriam earned credentials in special education and taught in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.

When asked why she and Wilbur chose to come to the Cedars, Miriam replied, “We had lived in McPherson for 12 years. Our transition eliminated yard work, allowed us to enjoy life, and enabled us to travel. Special trips took us to Europe and New Zealand. People wait too long to make the move to The Cedars Village. They should come while they are physically able to travel, get to know everyone, and develop new friendships. Although the duplexes look the same on the outside, each is adapted inside to individual tastes. I appreciate the ongoing maintenance and upgrades and the on-call emergency service.”

As a longtime resident, what is it about the Cedars that sets it apart from other retirement communities? Miriam responded, “It is a good size and family oriented. We have a spirit of community, good friendships, and a support system. I appreciate that The Cedars’ foundation was built on Christian principles, and that has not changed over the years.”I enjoy being here and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
