When you’re looking for a McPherson senior living community, it’s important to find one that suits you now and in the future. The Cedars provides maintenance-free living facilities to seniors of all ages, and we're equipped to provide the housing and healthcare services you may need as you age.

Living Options

At The Cedars, Independent Living suits seniors who don’t require special care but want a maintenance-free lifestyle. Residents who need light assistance will find all necessary amenities at home. Additionally, we have a team of 24-hour nursing staff at The Cedars Courts, our Assisted Living facility. Moreover, those who need continuing care will find it at our Healthcare Living group homes, which are equipped with nursing stations, kitchens, and common areas for residents. In addition, our Memory Care unit was designed with the safety of dementia patients in mind. Most importantly, all residents have access to our community amenities, including the Wellness Center, The Cedars Café, social activities and events, and more, on our beautiful campus with gorgeous lake views. This is senior living at its best!

Person-Centered Care

We use the term “person-centered care” to describe our approach to senior care services. Our staff is trained to place emphasis not only on assistance but on you and your preferences. When you move in, our medical staff will find out what your routine was like at home so that we can recreate it here. Above all, we want you to be able to live as independently as possible and empower you to make as many choices as you can when it comes to your daily activities. However, patients who are unable to make their own decisions are always treated with compassion and dignity.

1893

What is known as the oldest continuously operating retirement home in Kansas began on a farm 8 miles southwest of the south edge of Hutchinson, Kansas. Housed in a large white frame building, it was known as the Old Folks Infirm and Orphans Home Association of the German Baptist Brethren and was located near Booth, Kansas, later known as Darlow.

1920

A new brick building was added to the modest farmstead campus.

1930

The orphanage feature of the home was discontinued when it became apparent that serving the two widely divergent age groups was unworkable in the available facilities.

1952

Aging facilities compromised by a 1948 tornado forced the closure of the Darlow home. A search for alternate locations led to the purchase of the Dr. J.W. Fields home and an adjacent three-acre space on Kansas Avenue near Lakeside Park in McPherson. Construction of three single story resident wings followed.
